Normal gestation for humans is approximately 9 months. With modern technology, expecting parents can watch their baby grow from almost conception to (hopefully) a bouncing healthy living small being with a life and future of its own. A woman sees her body change in many ways as it copes with the growing life inside her. All of it culminates in a final period of excruciating pain (or so I've gathered), after which the baby is out and living on its own.

Well, with the likelihood of my having children (or being a willing party to such) at an infinitesimal level, I derive my parenting experience from other things, such as the work that I do. The work I did on the new Roy Henry Vickers website paralleled the process of pregnancy pretty well. The conception, design, architecture, development (which includes growth, issues cropping up, fixes and reworking, and regular visits to the obstetrician), and the final strain of pushing through testing and bug-fixing were as emotional and, uhhh, "fulfilling"(?!) as any pregnancy.

So anyway, after 10 months of serious gestation, I (and my co-parents CopperMoon Media and developer Justin Humber) hereby unleash into the world the all new Roy Henry Vickers website! This new site, so innocent and delicate, is now living and breathing on its own on the interweb.

It has been a long hard slog, but in the end it is so worth it. Roy gets a much-needed upgrade to his website, both in design and underlying functionality, and we parents reap the benefits as well. For myself, I no longer find the need to paper my walls in posters or blockmounts, or (as is more often the case) nothing at all. I now have enough high-quality art to make our apartment both homey and stylish. Working on trade for art was a decision that was oh-so easy in this case. I am anxiously awaiting the final 3 pieces to complete my contract ... and my home!

Please feel free to stop by the new RHV site and give it a look. And Roy, I really hope you enjoy your new online digs!

Two commments:

1) can oyu please remove the requirement to include an e-mail adddress? Irritating!

2) Lovely write up! You missed a tremndous opportunity to make some kind of scathing joke about 9 months of gestation follow by deep, excrutiating pain... for the next 20 years or so ;)

I'm just sayin'...

*hugs*

Mobloggers Expected to Catch On
Several companies have begun offering software allowing subscribers to read and write blogs on their wireless phones. The idea, known as moblogging, allows bloggers to take pictures, record sound and type text while on the go. According to analysts at market research firm Ovum, the feature is expected to gain in popularity, since it allows bloggers to update their blogs instantly. (Source: New York Times)
