Out of almost all our friends it seems that only Cam (see pic of sexy guy in toque and red hoodie below) actually had the day off today. He swung by this afternoon after the Remembrance Day ceremonies wanting to know if I wanted to go for a walk. Everyone else was working, and though I'd been working all day myself, I felt the need to spend a little time outdoors in the sun too.

I did make time for a moment of silence this morning, but it was work as usual both before and after. When we headed out for our walk, Cam and I started off going through Ross Bay Cemetary - which is where the first two photos came from. We talked a little about the history and purpose of the day while strolling by the few graves with wreaths and flowers.

Notice anything different about the pictures? Probably not, but that's okay 'cos I do. These awesomely clear photos were taken with Canon's new PowerShot G6 7.1 megapixel camera. Or rather, perhaps I should say MY new Canon PowerShot G6! Yes, it's only been one year (only a few days over, in fact) since I got my A80, but it's been a busy year, photographically speaking (well, a busy year no matter which way you look at it, but...) - I've taken almost 5800 pictures this past year! That's impressive anyway (in my mind), but especially since I came from taking only about half a roll of a disposable each year at Burning Man.

I made a quiet allusion to the new camera in my last post, but didn't mention it until now as I was not sure I was going to keep it. I was testing it out to see if it really would improve my photo results, or whether it was my incompetence that was holding me back from the shots I was trying to get. I had been feeling for some time that I was outgrowing my A80, and would need something new. Turns out that while it still may be partially me, the new camera has definitely improved my results!

I'm very excited to to be taking pictures again, being outside again, doing things other than programming 24/7 again! I hope you like the new camera's results as much as I do ... though it's just too bad for you if you don't! ;)

PS- Sheena got a new camera today - an only slightly used Canon PowerShot A80 ... guess from where!

PPS- extra-uber-special thanks to Jim for his help in testing the new camera, advice, and ongoing mentorship. Jim is the photo and friend BOMB.

PPPS- I apparently have 6 gmail invites ... anyone want one?

great shots james, i can see the difference already.. not sure if it is placebo or what, but it looks good and certainly your interest will make a big difference in the quality of your shots. that and i think the G6 has a better lens than that of the A80 amongst other things. how does it feel to hold?

Yeah, I wondered if it was coincidence myself, but I think I've taken enough with both to be seeing real differences. The lens, the sharpness and clarity, the colour balance, better shooting in lower light, etc. As to the feel: wicked. It's rock solid in my hand.
