I'm looking forward to next week. I'm getting my tonsils out. Finally. It's been years in the coming, but it's finally happening.

Now you mustn't be confused: I'm not looking forward to surgery, a night in hospital, or two weeks of painful recovery. What I am looking forward to is the down time. Two whole weeks of hiding inside, watching movies, eating soft foods like ice-cream and soup. Watching the rain hit the windows.

There's something about this time of year and the type of music to which I listen. I can't really explain it, but there's something right-seeming about being solidly encased in warm and dry while listening to driving dark progressive beats and watching the rain hit the windows.

Christmas? I couldn't care less. Miss the crowds of obnoxious shoppers, insane traffic, stress? Ha! Oh, but you'll be pining for work. Uh huh? Tell me another one. I'll be snuggled up on the couch with the electric fire going, and a DVD blocking out the pitt-a-patt of the rain in the early darkness.

There, you see? I said I couldn't explain it; take a look at the last line of each of the previous three paragraphs. Rain. There's something about it. That, and the progressive beats that are currently playing in my headphones.

Rain is scheduled for the next week... I'll let you know if I survive Tuesday.
